Experience the Healing Power of Yoga Therapy

Connecting Your Body and Mind to Heal Trauma, Anxiety, and Stress

You’ve been an advocate for your mental health. It’s been a journey of researching therapists, attending therapy, and doing everything possible to gain peace of mind.

Yet, something is missing.

You know the body and mind are not separate entities co-existing inside of you. But rather, intrinsically linked to every molecule that makes up the beauty that is you. There’s only one question left burning in your mind –

How do you sync the mind and body to gain true relief from your mental health obstacles?

The simple answer? A technique and time-honored practice called Yoga Therapy.

As a licensed psychotherapist and Yoga instructor, I create a one-of-a-kind experience for my clients. I offer a space to heal and explore any mental blocks on your mental health journey.

You won’t go through this process alone

Together, we will uproot and identify areas in your life where you need to heal – all while learning how to be grounded and present in your body.

What Is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy uses gentle asanas (physical postures), mindfulness, meditation, and pranayama practices (breathing techniques) in traditional yoga as tools to relieve mental health symptoms. When using the combination of each, we can reset the nervous system and achieve a sense of presence state of mind.

For some, yoga might seem like a “new age” practice, yet it is one of the world's oldest healing and scientific practices dating back to the pre-Vedic period. Through the Indian Sage Patanjali and his teachings, he discovered how Yoga can fuse the mental and physical state to one of complete calm.

There’s also a difference between traditional yoga and Yoga Therapy.

I’m both a licensed psychotherapist in the state of New York and have been a trained certified Yoga teacher for 15 years. Both certifications and licenses provide me with a wealth of knowledge and experience to work with clients and bring them the peace they desire.

The Difference in My Approach

I’ve always had a deep awareness of my body and mind and how they work together. Through my love of movement and my professional clinical background, I’ve acquired a deep understanding of the power of syncing our body and mind. When one is out of alignment, the offer will also be out of balance. This philosophy is deeply understood in Eastern medicine and cultures but has only recently been acknowledged in Western medicine.

As a licensed therapist, I know my clients may need more ways than talk therapy to relieve their traumas and heal. During these moments, I ask my clients to engage in bottom-up methods such as yoga and somatic practices that involve understanding what is happening within the body.

This is when I introduce the profound practice of Yoga Therapy.

Over my years of practice and teaching, I’ve seen the immense healing power of yoga therapy. By studying both the cultural traditions of yoga and the mental and physical healing aspects, I bridge the connection to healing for my clients.

I share this understanding and wisdom in all of my yoga therapy sessions – offering my clients the tools they need to acquire peace.

Together, we uncover samskaras (imprints, patterns, and tensions in the body) – within ourselves that can be unlocked through the power of asanas and meditation.

FAQS

Are there any risks in Yoga Therapy?

The first rule in therapy – and yoga is “do no harm.” With that mantra in mind, I will work with you to make sure you are listening to your body and proceeding at the correct pace for your body and mind. However, before doing any new form of exercise, it’s important to contact your doctor first.

How long does it take to see results?

Most people feel a sense of presence and physical calm as early as the first session. Yet, for more lasting relief both mentally and physically, consistency in your practice is important.

Can I do private and group sessions?

Absolutely! Your journey is unique to you.

Some may want to explore private sessions to create a more individualized experience, while others will seek the community and support found through group sessions. And yet others will want to do a mixture of both. Whatever feels comfortable and true to you is the route that you should take.

What does “Yoga” mean?

Yoga is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning to join or unite.

Is this a new form of therapy?

For some yoga might seem like a”‘new age” practice, yet it’s one of the oldest healing and scientific practices in the world. Its roots originate from the pre-Vedic period in India. Centuries later, Shri Yogendraji demystified the practice and brought it to the masses and the Western hemisphere.

What’s the difference between Yoga and Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy uses both the time-honored traditions of yoga to heal your mental state by a licensed clinician who has experience in and training in both areas. For example, a yoga instructor is only accredited to teach yoga techniques. However, someone who can teach yoga therapy has both certifications in yoga and mental health.
